The Standard History of Essex County, Massachusetts was
originally published by C. F. Jewett & Co. of Salem, Mass. in
1878.
It includes chapters about each of the 35 towns that existed at
that time in Essex County, and a history of the Massachusetts Bay
Colony from 1620 to 1692. See the text of the
Preface
for a complete description provided by the original publisher, and
the
Table of Contents for a complete
list of chapters.
The copy of this book owned by The CD-Info Company has a receipt
("receipt #1") pasted inside the front cover that indicates
it was sold to its original purchaser in December of 1878.
The body of the work contains 425 oversized pages, plus several
engravings.

The eBook is published in facsimile on a series of CD-ROMs using
Adobe Acrobat, with the Acrobat Reader included on each disc or
disc set.
Because of the size of the files, which exceed the capacity of
a single CD-ROM, we have published the eBook as a collection of
five "regional" CDs as well as in a 2-disc set containing
the entire book. We are able to offer single discs for a lower price
than the entire book, for those who are interested in only one or
a few neighboring towns.
Along with selected town histories and Acrobat Reader software,
each disc also includes a database of the names of people mentioned,
indicating which chapter and disc they appear in. This database
is also available for
online searching.
Please see the
"Features"
page for more information about technical details of this eBook
edition.
